My Sister (who is doing an awesome giveaway today for these adorable hand-made items) posted yesterday about all of the reasons why people think she is weird/crazy/don’t like her/sometimes even hate her. I loved this post because her and I are so much alike in so many ways, and we parent in similar ways, and our children our similar in ways. I asked her if I could copy her whole list and put it here (because I’m almost the same, lol) and she said No! Ha! So, I’m going to attempt my own, but it might sound very familiar to hers! In some ways I feel like I am “outing” myself so you all know what a crazy I am!
*I love Jesus and I like talking about Him
*I gave birth at home
*I got married young (at 21)
*My daughter is on a special diet (organic gluten-free and dairy free) and it makes her behavior better, and her tummy better. I talk a little bit about it sometimes.
*Like my Sister says, most of Capri’s food is not “to-go” food- so if you see her with infant baby food, or a bag of potato chips, it’s not what she eats all day long!
*We don’t vaccinate our kids. Here is one of our favorite resources about vaccine awareness: http://drtenpenny.com
*Neither one of our children have ever seen a pediatrician. We take them to a ND (naturalpath doctor) for checkups, and we weigh and measure them at home!
*We muscle test Capri to see if she is allergic to things, we muscle test her (and us) to see what homeopathic medicines she needs.
*We never see doctors because we can pretty much solve everything with a supplement, a remedy, colloidal silver and a chiropractic visit.
*I LOVE reality television (unlike my Sister!
) and will watch pretty much any ridiculous show.
*I also LOVE Twilight.
*My husband and I like to be at home, all the time, and with each other all the time. Our time away from each other is very thought out, and decided upon by both of us. We often enjoy “date nights” at home, instead of out, while the kids sleep. We would rather rent a movie, order a pizza, and snuggle on the couch then “hit the town”.
*I co-sleep, baby wear, breastfeed, cloth diaper, buy all natural cleaning products and natural and fragrance free body/makeup.
*But, I also let my kids cry it out, supplement with formula, use disposable diapers (natural chlorine free ones) and use a stroller
.
*Married a man who eats pizza every.single.day
*But I’m grossed out by processed foods, and our food industry (have you seen Food Inc?)
*I’m going to start my own garden now that we are in our own house!
*I used to be a strong Republican, but I no longer trust my government, and I wish that it was much, much more limited than it is. My quest for *natural living*, and knowledge of ingredients in food (because of my daughter) has caused me to not trust many “government” agencies, and their “standards”. This has caused me to sort of “check out” of political issues, when it used to be a huge part of my life.
*I believe in using green and eco-friendly products not because I believe in global warming, but because I think we are called to be stewards of not only our bodies, but our Earth.
*I love to shop at thrift stores, and garage sales.
*We don’t drink tap water (and we only drink distilled water). Fluoride is bad!
*I LOVE ice, and it started when I was pregnant, and has continued, and I must have ice in every single one of my drinks, and I try to drink the drink as fast as possible to get to the ice. I can tell you all the places in town that have the best ice! I’ll often order just a glass of ice! You know those restaurants that try to rip you off by giving you tons of ice, and no drink? I love those places.
*I’ve been involved with network marketing companies since I was 18, and I love the business opportunities and products of most of those companies!
*I eat cottage cheese with everything, and I also love mustard, mushrooms and capers
So…. can you still love me?
What kind of things do you do that are counter-culture?
